You Came in Force (Remembering Ikoru Mac-Cotterell: Five Years On)

14. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works… – Matthew 5: 14-16.

You came in force
Screaming like you knew the state of the world
Vibrant from the very start
Busy all around, keeping everyone on their toes
Running around, pulling things, throwing things, hiding things
You were a force from the very beginning and everyone felt it

You grew in kindness and showed the way
Gentle in your firmness, kind in your ways, speaking truth to power
Saying things as they should with the softest voice I’ve ever heard
Cooling everyone even in the tensest moments

You inspired a generation through your life and politics
Taught your admirers to cooperate and fight all at once
Cooperate for the system to work. Fight for the system to work
You were patient, taking it one day at a time, waiting for your time to come
You inspired everyone to keep the temperature up, to keep on fighting

You were truly here and we felt your presence, every one of us
You will always be remembered and in our hearts
Though you’ve left the scene, your legacy remains here with us
Your legacy lives with us, for us and all over us.
For generations to come

Keep resting, Canoe Baby. Rest in peace.
